Bobby Darrell “Dogg” Duncan was born on February 13, 1952, in Gatesville, Texas. He was called home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family.

On March 3, 1972, he married the love of his life, Rita Jane Staggs. His love was never doubted by his bride or any of his family. He never wanted to leave Rita’s side. He was a genuine example of a Christian husband, father, and man.

He worked for Murray Ohio in Lawrenceburg until they closed their doors, after which he worked for the Lewis County Highway Department until his well-deserved retirement.

Known for his flair for fashion, Darrell was a man who loved to dress up. He could outshop any woman, always choosing the brightest clothes that reflected his vibrant personality. His ties were legendary, boasting all different colors and patterns, each one showcasing his unique style and zest for life.

Darrell was a sports enthusiast, finding joy in both basketball and running. In his senior year of high school, he was named Mr. Basketball. Darrell also had a fondness for fishing, although most of the time, it was more about trying to fish than actual fishing. Yet, it was not about the catch, but the quiet moments of reflection, and the joy of being outdoors.

He was a people person. He loved to make people laugh with his stories, filling any room with laughter and joy. Darrell was a man whose heart was large enough to love all, and his arms were always open to welcome anyone, never meeting a stranger. He was a man who made friends and never knew any enemies. Darrell had a way of making people feel better just by talking to them.

His love for people was only surpassed by his love for God and his family. He served the Lord faithfully as an elder at Flatrock Church of Christ, living his faith and sharing God’s love with everyone he met. Darrell was known for his singing; his voice carried the melodies of his faith.

Darrell’s love and devotion to his family were the cornerstone of his life. He was a family man through and through, treating everyone as if they were family. His children, Scotty and Wesley, never had to look far for their father’s support. Darrell never missed a game or practice. He was always there to cheer them on, to guide them, and to be their support. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of pure joy for him. He loved each of them so dearly.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William “Billy” Duncan and Martha Millsap, grandparents, Charles Wesley Duncan and Rena Claudine Duncan, and sister, Donna Kay Duncan.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 51 years, Rita Jane Duncan; his sons, Robert Scott (Kay) Duncan and Wesley Adam (Tiana) Duncan; his brother, James Wesley Duncan of Comanche, TX; sisters, Linda Nell Braziel, Mary (Mike) Simmons of Hohenwald, Barbara Abels of DeLeon, TX and Rose Gober of Gatesville, TX; his grandchildren, Brett (Lakin Gatlin) Cameron, Chelsea (Jeremy) Cotham, Austin Duncan, Anna Kate Duncan, Avalanae Duncan, and Champion Duncan; great-grandchildren, Aubree Cotham, Abel Cotham, Hadley Houston, Jaxx Cameron, and Haze Cameron; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McDonald Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and continue until service time with Joe Paul Bryant, Bill McDonald, and Greg Smith officiating.
