Hattie B. Delk, affectionately known as “Mudear,” 101+ years of age, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019.
Mudear was born on May 6, 1917 in Centerville, TN to Sam and Amelia Walker. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion AME Church.
In 1947, Mudear began working at the Centerville Church of Christ Nursery where she remained until 2014. Mudear worked private duty at the Hickman County Hospital for a number of patients and did domestic housework for several families. She worked at the Town of Centerville from April 1989 to December 2010.
Mudear was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jones F. Delk; one son, Dan F. Delk; two brothers, Joe F. Walker and Virtee Walker; five sisters, Lucille Baldwin, Effie M. Williams, Beaulah Smith, Allean Jackson, and Elizabeth Ward.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Hubert Delk, PhD of Chattanooga, Amelia Bryant (Marvin) of Goodlettsville, Glenda Delk of Centerville, Sam Delk of Dickson, Helen Lee (Ron) of Temple Hill, MD, Donald Delk of Centerville; one sister, Velma Lee Alderman of Richmond, IN; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A wake will be held on Friday, April 26th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Centerville Church of Christ. A funeral service for Ms. Hattie Delk will be held on Saturday, April 27th, at 1:00 PM at the Centerville Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Centerville, TN.
