Cottrell, Nita June
Nita June Cottrell, aged 80, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, in the same quaint town where she first opened her eyes to the world on December 7, 1944. Born to Buster and Willodean Spann Sales, who predeceased her, Nita’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, family, and faith.
She was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd Cottrell, with whom she shared an unwavering bond of 50 years, a union that was often described by friends and family as the epitome of true soulmates. Together, they took immense pride in maintaining and cleaning the Hohenwald Church of Christ for over three decades, a reflection of their dedication to both their community and their faith.
Nita’s legacy is carried on by her loving children, Vickie (Steve) Tiller and Kaye Cottrell, as well as her cherished ‘children of the heart,’ Lindsey Wayland and Heath (Caitlin) Parnell and his children Thaddaeus and Ivey. She was the adored grandmother of Hunter Tiller, who affectionately called her ‘Sugar Mama,’ a title she wore with pride and joy. She also leaves behind to carry on her memory a sister, Patsy (Robert) Dickson; a niece, Kimberly (Mike) Moon; and great nieces and nephews, Kristianna, Michael, Matthew, and Alli.
A stay-at-home mom, Nita filled her home with warmth, laughter, and the simple pleasures of life. She was a fan of Jeopardy and shared many special moments with Hunter watching The Price is Right. Her front yard was a haven for birds and squirrels. Nita’s love for bible crosswords and her support for the Vanderbilt sports teams were just some of the many things that showed her vibrant personality.
Nita’s love for music spanned every genre, a testament to her open heart and spirit. She faced every challenge life presented with an unmatched grace and a sense of humor that could light up the darkest of rooms. As an elder’s wife and a dedicated church member, she embodied a faith-filled life, her love for the Lord being the cornerstone of her existence.
She had the remarkable ability to uplift those around her, making each day a little brighter through her presence. Her unwavering support for her family and her deep commitment to her beliefs were sources of inspiration and comfort to all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
