Horace “Sonny” Melvin Copley Jr. was born on October 21, 1937 in Lyles, Tennessee, and passed away on September 28, 2022, in Marietta, Georgia. He was 84 years 11 months and 7 days old.

He is the son of the late Horace Melvin Copley Sr. and Mary Smith Copley.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Timothy Kevin Copley, son-in-law, James Patrick Chittom and siblings, Maizelle Potts, Virginia Scroggins, and Faye Baker.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Warf Copley of Marietta, Georgia, daughter, Tammy Chittom of Lyles, daughter-in-Law, Beth Copley of Centerville, grandchildren, Brandon, Jason, Jerimy, Emma, Ella, and Bryson, great-grandchildren, Sarah, Sophie, Sharlotte, and Sullivan, sisters, Evelyn Witt of Brentwood and Charlene Breece of Centerville and brothers, Bobby Copley of Centerville and Jimmy Copley of Little Lot. He is also survived by his four-legged companion, Dakota, who he loved very much as well as a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.

Mr. Copley retired from Bell South as a transportation analyst.

He was a member of the East Cobb Church of Christ in Marietta, Georgia for over 30 years.

He and Mrs. Norma first met during grade school. He would save her a seat on the bus. She believes that is why she liked him so much. They have now been married for 65 years.

He loved to go deer hunting and fishing for trout. He also liked to go camping in the Georgia Mountains with Norma. He was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Tennessee Volunteers. He also had a love for old red chevy trucks. In his younger days, he would coach Kevin’s sports teams. This love of supporting his son carried over to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well, as he enjoyed going to see any of them play any sport.

More than all these things he was a family man. He was sweet and kind to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them. He loved when all the family would get together. Sonny was a man who would give you the shirt off of his back and talk to anyone because he truly never met a stranger. He will be missed deeply by all of his family and friends. 

Visitation with the family will be 2 Oct 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County.  Funeral Services will be 3 Oct 2022 at 1:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County with burial to follow at Little Lot Cemetery, Duck River, TN.
