Clay, Kenneth Edward
Kenneth Edward “Ken” Clay, 75, of Chattanooga, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in a local health care facility. Ken was raised in Old Hickory, and relocated to Chattanooga in 1953 to work at the DuPont plant. He retired as supervisor in 1985 after 31 years of service. Ken was a lifelong fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team and enjoyed tailgating with family and friends before the home games. He also enjoyed planting a vegetable garden each spring and continued to raise tomatoes after moving to Wellington Place in 2006. Ken sold pecans each fall and could be seen delivering pecans to friends in his faithful Old Blue 1963 Chevrolet pickup truck. Ken was an avid golfer and was a member of the Valleybrook and Creeks Bend Golf Courses, and enjoyed many golfing trips with friends through the years. Ken and his wife, Imy, worked as volunteer marshals at many LPGA, PGA, and Senior golf tour events, among them the Sara Lee LPGA Gold Tournament in Hermitage for 11 years and at The Vinny, Vince Gill’s Charity Golf Tournament in Nashville for 14 years. Ken was predeceased by his mother, Lois Harper Clay; father, Raymond (Teenie) Clay; and grandparents, Myrtle Davis Clay, Joseph Ernest Clay, and Geneva Harper. Ken is survived by his wife of 56 years, Imodean H. “Imy” Clay of Hixson; daughter, Kimberly A. Clay of Hixson; sister, Jacklyn Edwards of Old Hickory; brother, Wayne (Dorris Nell) Clay of New Johnsonville; and several nieces and nephews. Box 19269, Chattanooga, TN 37416. Services were held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
