Clay, Jeweldean E
Jeweldean Elizabeth Clay, 91, went peacefully to be with the Lord on April 19, 2024, in Columbia. Entering this life on October 7, 1932, in Pulaski, she was the youngest and the last living child of ten born to the late William Wallace and Addie Belle (Parker) Harbison.
After devoting many years to raising her three children, Jeweldean found her calling as a caregiver in home health, where she extended her warmth and compassion to those in her care. During her children’s younger years, her involvement in various associations, such as the PTA and serving as a Girl Scout leader, displayed her commitment to nurturing the growth and development of not only her children but those around them.
Jeweldean’s zest for life was evident in her many interests. She was often described as sweet but sassy, she was a true pistol. As the best mom and homeroom mom, she was deeply involved in her children’s lives, always ready with a supportive word or a helping hand. Her love for the outdoors was profound, with swimming, drawing, camping, and hiking among her favorite activities. She found solace and joy in nature’s beauty, which she embraced at every opportunity.
A beautiful singer with a talent for playing the piano by ear, Jeweldean’s musical gifts were a source of delight for all who had the pleasure of listening. Her love for candy was well-known, especially during her time at Poplar Estates, where she could often be found enjoying one of her favorite candies, a Werther’s Original.
In addition to her parents and her nine siblings, she is preceded in death by her son, Bill Clay.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, Rich (Kim) Clay of Sarasota, Florida; her daughter, Karen (Gary) Brown of Hohenwald; her grandchildren, Daniel (Courtney) Clay, Erin Clay, Kristin Clay, and Julie (Seth) Fuller; great-grandchildren, Gunnar, Britta, Sadie, Simon, Elianna, Rowan, Liam, Elijah, John, Tobias, Llew, Gwyneth, and Charis; along with numerous nieces and nephews that she cherished dearly.
Jeweldean Elizabeth Clay’s life was a melody of love, care, and unwavering dedication. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Karen would like to thank the staff at Poplar Estates Senior Living Community for their loving care of her mom over the past almost 5 years. They are truly a blessing to their residents!
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 11:00 a.m. in Davis-Oak Grove Cemetery with Bob Cook officiating.
McDonald Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Clay family.
