Nick Church, a cherished soul known for his boundless humor and immense love of life, passed away on January 4,2024, in Hohenwald Tennessee.  Born on February 24, 1990, in Flint, Michigan Nick’s infectious laughter and warm presence became a joy for all who knew him throughout his 33 years.

Nick was the beloved son of Kelly and her husband Earl Taylor, and the late Duane Church. He grew up in a loving family, with his siblings which he adored, Taylor Swanson (Cody), and Jade Oertle (Dustin). Nick took immeasurable pride in being an uncle to Victoria, Abel, Riley, Nolan, and Preston, always showering them all with so much love and laughter. Nick was also the cherished grandson of Ruth and the late James Shoemaker, Joyce Lietzke and the late Melvin Church, and the late Barbara Church. Nick’s extended family included his aunts and uncles, the late Dennis Church Sr., Debby Donahue, Donna Church, Darlene Panico, Kimberly (Sam) Livingston, Kristine (Trey) McKinney, Kandi Jo (Chris) Brown, Kristopher (Denise) Brown, Keric (Kakie) Brown, and his bonus Grandmother Kathy Brown.

Nick enjoyed special bonds from growing up with his cousins, Ross Livingston, Ryan Livingston, Amanda Perkins, AJ Mozo, Joel Mozo, Ethan Mozo, Korbin Brown, Macy Hedden, Dennis (Punky) Church Jr., Amy MacKay, the late Todd Church, Ryan Donahue, and Katie Barger. Nick was preceded in death by his father Duane, Uncle Dennis, Grampa Mel, Cousin Todd, Papa Jim, and his precious Granny Barb who affectionately referred to him as “my little turkey”. Nick’s life was enriched by a host of other family members and friends who will forever hold him dear in their hearts.

Nick’s passion for the water began in his middle school years when he was a member of the Navy Sea Cadet Program. It was during his time in the program that decided that he wanted to become a sea captain and live on the water. Nick’s passion led him to a fulfilling career as a Charter Boat Captain, where he not only navigated the seas, but also the hearts of those around him. His colleagues and friends in the boating community will remember him fondly as a man who was always ready with a helping hand and comforting words. Nick also enjoyed educating everyone about the ins and outs of the ecosystem.

A man of many interests, Nick’s sense of humor was at the forefront of his personality. He was in the midst of preparing for his first stand-up comedy show, ready to share his innate gift of making people laugh with his stories and quick wit. His love for the water was only matched by his love for people. Nick was known for his huge heart full of empathy for others, always there for anyone in need. He cherished his family deeply, with a special bond with his sister “TayTay” that was evident to all who observed them.

Nick’s fur baby, Hudson, whom he rescued from Noah’s Ark in 2013, was his constant and loyal companion, and his steadfast source of joy. His affection for Hilton Head Island, which he fondly referred to as “his island” was a testament to his love for beauty and serenity. Nick’s mind was a treasure trove of random facts, often surprising and delighting those around him with his extensive knowledge. Funny, loving, charismatic, and thoughtful- these words encapsulate the essence of Nicholas Edward Church. His legacy is one of love, laughter, compassion, and an unrelenting zest for life. He had an uncanny ability to brighten a room and lift spirits, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know him.

Nick’s life will be celebrated through the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the love he spread so freely.  With that being said, the family is asking for family and friends to share their favorite stories and memories of Nick at his celebration of life service. Visitation with the family will begin at 3:00 pm on Tuesday January 9, 2024, until time of service of 4:00 pm at Central Christian Fellowship.
