Darrell Dewayne Cathey, age 67, of Duck River, Tennessee, a cherished member of our family, passed away peacefully on April 5, at Maury Regional Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was affectionately known as “Papi D”. Darrell was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.
Darrell was born on October 7, 1957, to the late Billie Ann Cathey and Theophilus Gipson in Nashville, Tennessee. He was educated in the public schools of Hickman County were he established friendships that have been life-long until his death.
Darrell accepted Christ at an early age, attending the Pleasant Union Church of Christ. He continued to live a life of devotion and unwavering faith until his death. His faith allowed him to open his heart to all those whom he met along the way.
Darrell could light up any room with his huge smile, infectious sense of humor, and don’t forget the pranks that would cause you to bend over in laughter! His legacy leaves us with memories of good deeds, fishing, gardening, farming, sharing with others, and willingness to go above and beyond when there was a need.
Darrell retired from Nissan after 25 years of service and later worked with Ultium Cells. His passion for attention to detail and quality workmanship led to many opportunities, but most importantly were the team of friends established along the way.
Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Ann Cathey, father, Theophilus Gipson, and brother Freddie Ross Cathey.
He leaves to forever cherish and honor his memory is his wife, Patricia Cathey; sons, Carlton Justin and Andrew Cathey; bonus sons, Jeffery and Alexander (Morgan) Renfro; bonus daughter, India Renfro-Robinson (Frederick); bonus grandchildren, Jaden, Amari, Seyana, Seriaha, Ayaan and Asher Renfro; brother Thomas Bradford (Carol) Cathey; sister Vivian Ann (Marlin) Hardison; brothers, Theophilus Jr., Gregory, Steven A., Kenneth J. Gipson; sisters, Rosalyn McCullough and Vanessa Fortune; aunts, Robbie Sue Booker, Helen Patterson, Betty Cathey, Geraldine Dowell, and Sue Cathey; uncle, Randolph B. Cathey; sister-in-law, Christine Cathey; bonus brothers-in-law, John Robert (Yuvonne) Duke and Charles Randolph (Beatrice) Duke.
Some of his devoted family and friends are serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Eric Booker, Jeff Webster, Mike Armstrong, Marlin Hardison, Steve Lancaster, Danny Wood, Dewayne Cathey, and Juanest Cathey.
Darrell is also survived by a host of nieces, Fartesha, Shatrina, Marlee’, Ebony, and Marcelyn; nephew, Freddie Jr. and Greg Polk, cousins, church family, dear friends, and co-workers.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him as “Papi D”, “Truck”, and “Cat”.
Visitation with the family will be 11 April 2025 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home, Inc. – Hickman County and 12 April 2025 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Pleasant Union Church of Christ, 5083 Southpoint Ridge Rd, Hampshire, TN 38461. Funeral Services will be 12 April 2025 at 12:00 PM at Pleasant Union Church of Christ, 5083 Southpoint Ridge Rd, Hampshire, TN with burial to follow at Center Star Cemetery, Duck River, TN.
