Lawrence Bracey Campbell, 72, of Lewisburg, TN, passed away at his home, Monday, May 13, 2019, following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Electra Warren Campbell.
Born in Inverness, MS, March 14, 1947, Bracey attended Mississippi College. He began his career in journalism as a sports writer for the Jackson (MS) Clarion-Ledger. In 1971, he moved to Nashville to join the staff of the Nashville Banner as a copy writer. He later was promoted to chief political writer and managing editor. He was administrative assistant to Tennessee Gov. Lamar Alexander during his second term, and a founder of the Brentwood (TN) Journal. From 1971 – 1975 he served in the Tennessee National Guard. Bracey was a member of the Marble Plains Baptist Church in Winchester, TN.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Hopkins-Campbell, a son, Ben Campbell, a daughter, Jenna Campbell Rozar, 3 Grandchildren, and an aunt, Gwen Box.
Visitation will be at McDonald Funeral Home, 102 West End Avenue Centerville, TN, Friday, May 17 from 10 AM – 1 PM. His funeral service will follow at 1 PM with William McDonald and Pastor Jack Hice co-officiating. Interment will be in Charles L. Nickell Memorial Park in Centerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the funeral home to offset funeral expenses.
