A highly regarded basketball player at Hickman County High School (class of 1961), Wayne Cagle was awarded the HCHS Most Valuable Player by the Hickman County Chronicle for 1959-1960 and again in 1960-1961. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam on active duty from 1965-1967, including serving as an artillery survey specialist (honorably discharged in 1971).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Norris, Lynville Douglas, and James Audrey Cagle, and two infant sisters. Survived by his wife Sylvia Brake Cagle, two children Jason Cagle and Jamie Lea Brennan, one brother Larry Cagle, four sisters Sue Roder, Helen Claud, Barbara Cagle Ray, and Brenda Cagle Gilbert, and numerous nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
