Burns, Mattie Louise
Mattie Louise Robinson Burns, 86, of Linden passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024. She was born in Orlando, Kentucky to the late George Dewey Robinson and Laura Myrtle “Sissie” Leger.
In her early years, she grew up on a tobacco farm. At the age of eighteen, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she met the love of her life, T. Sergeant Joseph Burns, USAF. Mattie was a proud military wife who enjoyed the adventure of raising their family in Massachusetts, Tennessee, South Carolina, the Azores, the Philippines, Kansas City, and later settling in Perry County. Besides being a homemaker, Mattie also worked at Red Kapp, Linden Products, Lobelville Elementary as a teacher’s aide, and volunteered serving her community.
Mattie’s faith in Christ was an important part of her life. She was an active member at First Christian Church, where she sang in the church choir, duets, and in cantatas. Besides music, Mattie was creative by writing poems, quilting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed traveling, bowling, finding good deals at local yard sales and auctions. As a devoted Mom and fun-loving MaMaw, she took joy in bringing her family together, cooking delicious meals, and documenting their life through video and pictures.
Mattie Robinson Burns leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Wanda Litle of Linden, Barbara Hinson (Timmie) of Hohenwald, Joe Burns (Linda) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Debbie Qualls of Linden, David Burns (Anissa) of Dickson, grandchildren Allen Litle (Anje), Troy Litle (Nicky), Chris Litle (Krystal), Mandy Pennington (Chuck), TJ Hinson (Kayla), Justin Burns, Ethan Burns, Aaron Burns, Sabrina Dunkle (Caleb), Dakota Qualls (Taylor), Jordan Burns (Rachel), Carson Burns, Hannah Henningsen (August), and great grandchildren Alex and Ande Litle, Brexton Litle, Ashley Averett (Lucas) and Addison Hinson (Bryson), Lyla and Jax Hinson, Mylie and Bronx Dunkle, Maxx Qualls, Parker Kate Burns, Avery Burns, Carolyn Henningsen, and baby boy Henningsen.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cayce Burns; son-in-law, Garry Qualls; brothers, Cecil, Ernest, William, Estil, Clebert, and Paul; sisters, Ruby, Cleo, Esther, and Evelyn.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 2,2024 at Young Funeral Home in Linden. Interment followed at Dr.O.A. Kirk Memorial Cemetery in Linden, TN.
