Burlison, Deborah Bates
Deborah “Debbie” Bates Burlison, a woman known for love and compassion, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, in Centerville, TN, at the age of 68. Born on July 24, 1956, in Hohenwald, TN. Deborah was a daughter to the late James Bates and late Elizabeth Horner. She was raised by Pollie Horner and grew up in the warmth of the close-knit communities of Hornertown and Nacome.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Wayne Burlison, and by her sister Tabitha Bates. Debbie raised a family that included her children: Michael Harrington, married to Rhonda, Brad Harrington, married to Melissa, Scott Harrington, and her late son Stephen Harrington. Deborah’s role as a grandmother was one of her most treasured. She is survived by her grandchildren: Tabitha McCloud, Lacey Johnston, Dillon Johnston, Alexys Fordson, Jayden Harrington, Jonathan Harrington, Stacy Clemons, Taylor Harrington, Harper Harrington, Gage Harrington, and Ansley Harrington. Her great-grandchildren, Kylie, Brantley, Ella, Lincoln, James, Tinslee, and one soon to arrive, will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandmother’s warmth and generosity.
Her interests were as varied as they were fulfilling. Debbie’s green thumb brought life to her vibrant gardens, a hobby that provided not only beauty but also a serene retreat for her and many others. Her fascination with ancestry research led her on many adventures, tracing the roots of her family tree and connecting with distant relatives. Her passion for the history of Centerville’s cemeteries revealed her deep respect for the past and a desire to preserve it for future generations.
Thrift shopping was another joy in her life, not just for the treasures she would find, but for the stories and lives that each item represented. Debbie faced challenges head-on, always with a remarkable sense of peace that assured those around her that everything would be alright.
Debbie was the embodiment of friendliness, approaching all with an open heart and a gentle spirit. Her presence was a comfort, her smile a gift that she gave freely and often. She was the kind of person who made the world a better place simply by being in it.
