Nell Bunch, a woman of love and laughter, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the age of 90, in her birthplace of Hohenwald, Tennessee, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 26, 1934, to the late John Barnett and Lila Jackson Barnett, Nell’s life was filled with joy, care, and delightful humor, woven with the love of her family and friends.
Nell’s early years in Hohenwald were enriched by the guidance and affection of her stepfather, Joseph “Pop” Lassics, who played a significant role in her upbringing. She crafted a life of warmth and hospitality, traits that shone brightly through her marriage to the late Sherman Eugene Bunch. Together, they built a foundation of familial love that supported their children, Michael Bunch, Beverly (Jerry) Morton, and John (Kenya) Bunch, who then expanded the family tree with seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Nell’s role as a matriarch was cherished, and her influence will forever be imprinted on the hearts of her loved ones.
Professionally, Nell dedicated many years to nurturing others through her work as a cook. She served at various boys’ homes, where her cooking skills and motherly presence provided comfort to countless youths. Her colleagues and those she served remember her not just for her delicious meals but also for the generous spirit with which she prepared them.
Nell’s interests outside of work were simple yet profound. She found joy in socializing, whether it was a casual chat with a neighbor or a lively family gathering. Her passion for flowers was evident in the vibrant blooms that graced her home and garden, a testament to her nurturing touch. Above all, Nell’s greatest delight was spending time with her family. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her love for them as boundless as the sky.
Those who knew Nell will recall her infectious laughter and the ease with which she could lift the spirits of a room. Her sense of humor was a gift that she generously shared, ensuring that memories of her would always bring a smile.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am in the chapel of Adair Funeral & Cremation Services on Friday, December 6, 2024.
