Bryant, James Evans
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Evans Bryant a beloved husband, father, and grandfather on March 2, 2024, at the age of 83.
He was born on August 7, 1940, in Wrigley, to Verna Dee and Lawrence Bryant. James graduated from Lewis County High School in 1959. After high school, James proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1974 when he was honorably discharged. Throughout his life, James exemplified the values of honor and loyalty. The lessons learned during this time shaped his character and instilled in him a profound sense of duty to his country and community.
After his military service, James held various jobs, including working at Chrysler for several years, where he became a lifelong fan of the brand. For the remainder of his life, you would always see a Jeep, Ram, or Dodge parked in his driveway. After his time at Chrysler, James embarked on a new adventure first as an OTR truck driver then later as a driver for Ryder.
In his later years, James found joy in coaching girls’ softball and basketball at Kennedy High School where he shared his knowledge and passion for both sports with young athletes in his community. Among other hobbies, he enjoyed deer hunting, volunteering at Taylor Little League World Series, and cheering for Alabama’s football team.
Above all, James cherished his family and adored his grandchildren. His love and pride for them knew no bounds and he treasured every moment shared with his loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kazuko; his children, Judy (Paul) Vilwock of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and Paul (Seema) Bryant of Collierville; his grandchildren Nikko, Priya, and Nitin; and sister Glenda Tanner of Centerville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Verna Dee and Lawrence, and brother Bobby Joe.
