Mr. “GY” Garland Young Bennett, of Hohenwald, passed away Friday evening, February 11, 2022 at the age of 82. He was born June 29, 1939, in Hohenwald to the late Willie Bennett & Clista Carroll.

Mr. GY as many people knew him. He married the love of his life, Mrs. Lois on March 19, 1960, and this year they would have celebrated 62 years of marriage. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as farming, hunting, fishing & football. He served as Sheriff of Lewis County for 8 years from 1976 – 1984. He then went on to join the Forestry service, putting in 18 years before retiring. He loved to race cars at the dirt track here in Hohenwald, building his own racecar, he raced with Tut Brown, Hassell Spears & Bobby Riley to name a few. He and his wife were members of the Pineview Church of Christ.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, February 14 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Pineview Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 15 beginning at 11:00 AM at the Pineview Church of Christ with Bobby Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis County Memorial Gardens, Hohenwald, TN.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Bennett, son, Timmy Bennett and wife Anna, brother, Farmer Bennett, sister, Joyce Simmons, grandchildren, Dakota (Heather), Dameron (Rachel), Tonya, Malia, Karli & Sebastian, and Great-grandchildren Cayden & Aubrey.
