Martha Bratton Bates was born in Shady Grove on October 21, 1931 to the late George Erwin and Audrey Baker Bratton, and departed this earthly home on August 22, 2022, at the age of 90. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, Leo Bates, and her brothers, Rod, Don, McEwen and William Bratton.

Survivors include her son, David and wife Debbie Bates, daughter, Barbara Blanton, her grandchildren, Michael (Lindsey) Bates, Stephanie (Trever) Rietveld, Matthew (Shauna) Blanton, and Audrey (Colton) Banks; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Whitley Bates, Baker, Hayes, and Scout Rietveld, Zac and Ian Blanton, Aiden Clemmons, and Will Banks, along with many other relatives and friends.

Miss Martha as she was known by many along with her husband Leo owned and operated Bates Garage for many years. She was a member of the West 7th Church of Christ for many years, after the death of Leo, she was a member of the Shady Grove Church of Christ.

Visitation with the family will be 26 August 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County.  Funeral Services will be 27 Aug 2022 at 11:00 AM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Centerville, TN.
