Bates, John Everett
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Everett Bates, known affectionately as Everett, who left this world too soon on August 24, 2025, at the age of 17. Born on November 1, 2007, in Columbia, to proud parents Brad (Brandy) Bates and Kassie (Scotty Maness) Sadler Clanton, Everett’s vibrant spirit and boundless enthusiasm left a mark on all who knew him.
A senior at Lewis County High School, Class of 2026, Everett was a dedicated student, known for his intelligence and determination to excel. His academic achievements were only a part of who he was; Everett also possessed a passion for life and a curiosity that knew no bounds. He worked diligently at his family’s bank, where he took on any and all duties with a smile and a willingness to learn. His work ethic and commitment to his family’s legacy were evident to all who worked alongside him.
Everett’s interests were as diverse as they were intense. He had a special love for music, often found strumming his guitar, creating melodies that reflected his innermost thoughts and feelings. Aviation captivated his imagination, and he was eagerly preparing for his first solo flight, a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for the sky. Everett’s need for speed found an outlet in race cars, where he was a familiar face at the Lawrenceburg drag strip. He was a regular at local jump n’ runs, where his competitive nature and zest for life were on full display.
Though his time with us was far too short, Everett’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his warmth, exuberance, and kindness. His infectious laugh, his bright-eyed optimism, and his unwavering loyalty will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held at Blondy Church on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Brothers Jeff Gandy, Ben Floyd, and Robby Moore will be officiating. A private family burial will take place later.
