Bates, Danny Neal
Mr. Danny Neal Bates passed away Saturday Morning July 30, 2022, at Lifecare in Centerville.
Danny was born July 16, 1941, to the late Jason Clifford and Pauline Hensley Bates of Hohenwald, the first son and second child of thirteen children nine sisters and three brothers.
He was retired from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as an Agent for The United States of America. Recruited In college but delayed his post until he fulfilled a promise to the Lewis County School Superintendent Mr. Sisco to teach at Lewis County High. During his tenure with the Agency, he served his country proudly receiving the Civilian Medal of Service working in Washington, DC from 1964 and Saigon, Vietnam during 1968- 1969. Upon returning and retiring from the agency, he was Vice President of Commerce Union Bank. He was a hard-working businessman, Austin Peay State College Graduate, former LCHS teacher, Graduate of Hickman County High School serving as Class of 1958 President, Mr. HCHS, Salutatorian, and caretaker to his wife “June” of 62 years after she had a major stroke in 2010. He was known for his famous country breakfast Biscuits and Chocolate gravy. A devout follower of God he was a member of Flatrock Church of Christ in Hohenwald, Tennessee and attended Walnut Street Church of Christ during the Covid 19 pandemic where he stepped into the world of preaching.
A loving husband, father of four, He lived most of his life in Nashville and later years in Hohenwald.
Danny is survived by his wife, June Winters Bates, to whom he married on July 3, 1960. Four children, Lisa (Brad) Magnolia of Ohio, Todd Bates of Hohenwald, Danielle Bates Fields of Nashville, Erinn (Glenn) of Nashville, Five grandchildren, Zachary Luke Bates of Hohenwald, Bailey Adalaide Fields of Nashville, Augustus Daniel Lancaster of Nashville, Seth Raleigh Daniel Bates of Murfreesboro, Johnathon Bennett Bates of Hohenwald. Sisters, Angela Floyd, Lynda Mercer, Janice Willis, Helen Bates, Barbara (Don) Meridith, Judy McClearan, Donna Couch Jill Hunt, and brothers, Stephen Bates and Clark Bates; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jason Clifford Bates II and his sister, Ruhama Bates Sisco, both of Hohenwald.
A celebration of Life will be held at Bethel Church at Farmers Exchange 2989 Cane Creek Road, Hohenwald, TN 38462 on August 6, 2022, beginning at 2:00 pm.
