Barber, Roy Keith
Roy Keith Barber was born November 19, 1949, and passed away February 21, 2022, at Waynesboro Health and Rehab in Wayne County. He was 72 years old.
Keith lived in the Beaverdam area his whole life. Never having a desire to leave. He was the son of the late Roy Meeks Barber and Mary Kathryn Johnston Barber.
Keith served in the Vietnam War and joined the Tennessee National Guard shortly after he returned home. He worked out of the USPF&O in Nashville and was a part of the Centerville National Guard Unit. He retired after serving 30 years.
Keith loved to be on the Tennessee River. He loved water skiing and riding up and down the river. Also, he loved camping on the river. The upper campground had running water and a real bathroom. That was off limits. To be a real camper, you had to rough it. So many nights were spent in a tent with a campfire and lots of hungry mosquitoes. Farming was another passion. He grew up farming and continued that throughout his life. He loved his cattle. He loved to sneak off occasionally and go west. He always dreamed of hitting it big on his penny, nickel, and quarter slots in Tunica.
Keith is survived by his wife of 40 years Donna Pinkerton Barber; his children John Barber, Miranda Yates (Dusty), and Steven Skelton; his grandchildren Emily, Austin and Hayden Yates, Cory and Katelyn Skelton; his great-grandson Carter Chandler; his sister Helen Hicks (William). He was preceded in death by his sister Jane McCoy (Bobby).
