Baker, Farris Jr
He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Ann Goins Baker, of 59 years, his parents, siblings Donald (Jewel) Baker, Louise Baker (Hillard) Armstrong (Marshall) Leathers, and Lonnie (Betty) Baker, son in laws, David Horner and Jim Brumit, and his in laws Lester B and Belva Goins.
Farris was known by a few names Junior, Daddy, his CB handle Country Bumpkin, and his favorite was Grandaddy.
Junior began his career at Genesco until he could start living his dream of becoming a truck driver. He worked at Tencon from early 1960s until the closure of the plant in early 1990s. He drove over 5,000,000 accident free miles. He later drove for Averitt Express until his retirement in 2006. He was able to travel to all but 2 states during his career. His retirement was short lived as he had trucking in his blood. He went back to work part time for Freeman Lumber a few years later and officially retired with Fabrication Specialties in 2022.
Junior was a strong man surviving a child hood illness, falling off his 18 wheeler in Colorado, and later surviving stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for 22+ years. He was an avid NASCAR fan rooting for “The King” Richard Petty, and later on “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville” Elliott.
He leaves behind his daughters Cindy (Gregg) Johnston (Centerville), April Baker (Dickson), Jill (Truman) Wrenne (Nashville). Grandchildren Lacey Johnston, Dillon (Paige) Johnston, Jessica Wrenne, Tru (Willow) Wrenne, Lilianna Wrenne, and great granddaughter Tinslee Johnston. Siblings Arthur (Norma) Baker, Martha (Everett) Mayberry, Joe (Joan) Baker, and Mary Sue (George) Bragg and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Special thanks to Caris and NHC for the loving care they provided during this time.
