Averett, Andrew
Dr. Andrew Averett, 61, of Linden, passed away October 23, 2021. He was born February 14, 1960 and was the son of Ghean Knox and Willodean Ramey Averett.
Dr. Andy was an extremely intelligent, witty, one of a kind, larger than life – friend, brother, and father. He was a graduate of Perry County High School and furthered his education to graduate with a doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Upon graduation, he returned to his hometown to start his first medical practice. He enjoyed giving back to his community from many charitable acts or simply taking care of a neighbor in need.
Later in life, he completed his addiction medicine training and most recently served as the medical director of Cedar Recovery. This cause was something personal and very dear to him. He was able to mentor and help many through the process of recovery.
When he was not serving his community, he was happiest spending time by the water, cooking for his family, watching an evening sunset, and in general enjoying any of the finer things in life. He believed life was meant to be experienced. Very few knew how many people he had helped during hard times and often was described to have treated everyone as equals.
He often spoke how his father was the most influential person to him. He was widely influenced by many musical genres based on what he was going through in various times of life.
Towards his final days, he had spoken that he felt he was able to have done all the things in life he had wanted to and visited most of the places he wanted to see.
Dr. Averett was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anja Dixon Averett; and sister, Nancy Averett Connor.
Survivors include his fiance’, Tracey Williams; his daughter, Allyson Averett (Cody Self); his son, Lucas Averett (Ashley Pennington); sister, Elizabeth Averett Paschall; brothers, Dr. Steve (Vanessa) Averett and Anthony Scott Averett; several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He will also be missed by his employees and many patients.
A Life Celebration was held Wednesday October 27, 2021, in the chapel of Young Funeral Home, Linden. Interment followed services at Memorial Gardens of Wayne County, Waynesboro.
