On Monday, March 4, 2019, Tommie Maxine Atkinson passed from this life at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. She was 83 years old.
Maxine is survived by her husband of 66 years, Frank D. Atkinson; her daughters Pam Morgan (Herby) and Susan McNabb both of Centerville, TN; her grandchildren Nicholas McNabb (Amanda) of Searcy, AR and Lindsey Bailey (Scott) of Columbia, TN; her great-grandchildren Lily McNabb (Nicholas and Amanda), Knox and Sloan Bailey (Lindsey and Scott); and two brothers David Thompson of Nashville, TN and Earl Thompson of Fairview, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents John D. and Bertha Hinson Thompson of Pleasantville, TN.
Maxine was born and raised in Pleasantville, TN. She was known by many for her beauty and intellect. A very talented and accomplished seamstress, she made countless sets of clothing for her family. She was also very gifted at the art of cross stitching and has much of her work framed and on display. Maxine was an outstanding homemaker. On February 7, 1953, Maxine Thompson married Frank D. Atkinson, and for the next 66 years, you rarely saw one without the other. In 1964, Frank and Maxine made residence in the Hickman County Jail while Frank served as sheriff. Over the next 25 years, Maxine served a vital role at the jail as bookkeeper, jailer, cook, and much more. Frank has always said he could not have made it without her, and she was always available to do whatever was needed. Maxine was beloved by many, but none more than her family. She was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. The family would like to express their appreciation for the love that everyone has extended to them during this difficult time.
Visitation with the family will be held on 7 Mar 2019, from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County. Funeral Services will be held 7 Mar 2019 at 3:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home – Hickman County. Burial will follow in Oakmont Cemetery, Centerville, TN.
