Mr. Jerry Ammons, of Hohenwald, TN passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, two days shy of his 82nd birthday. He was born in Hohenwald, TN on July 27, 1940, to the late Carlos Don Ammons & Sarah (Lynch) Ammons.

Mr. Ammons, in 1959 bought a small hometown grocery store on Swan Avenue. From that point forward, Ammons Shop-Rite Market would become famous for its custom-made meat and sandwiches. If asked today, the majority of Hohenwald would say, they made the best bologna sandwiches in the south. But it wasn’t just bologna they were known for, they were also known for meats and cheeses that you can’t find in an everyday grocery store, such as hoop cheese, head cheese, liver cheese, pickle loaf & rag bologna. And who could forget the big cigar he was always seen with. In 2014, after 55 years in business, Ammon’s Market closed for good.

While not at work, he loved to attend Nascar races, and spend time at the river with his family in the summer. He also enjoyed classic cars and trading vehicles.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Ammons, daughter, Lisa Ammons Chambers (Danny), Grandson, Dylan Chambers (Grace), Granddaughter, Allie Hopkins (Jacob) & soon to be great-grandson, Eli Chambers.

Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home, Hohenwald, Funeral Services will immediately follow, beginning at 2:00 PM.

Burial will follow in the Downey Cemetery.

Officiating the service will be Jeff “Boo” Spears & Yogi Spears, singing will be led by Greg Mullinicks, and serving as pallbearers will be Lynn Ammons, Lee Riley, Steve Selby, Frankie Kelly, Jake White, Josh White, Ryan Johnston & Jason Grimes.
