{"id":3326,"date":"2022-01-10T17:31:19","date_gmt":"2022-01-10T23:31:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/lauderdale\/?p=3326"},"modified":"2022-01-10T17:31:19","modified_gmt":"2022-01-10T23:31:19","slug":"steele-thomas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/lauderdale\/2022\/01\/10\/steele-thomas\/","title":{"rendered":"Steele, Thomas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Thomas Steele<\/strong>, one of the leading lawyers of Ripley, Tenn., and the youngest<br \/>\nliving son of Isaac and Jane (Hadley) Steele, was born February 12, 1846, in<br \/>\nRipley, and when eleven years of age was taken by his parents to Covington,<br \/>\nTipton Co., Tenn., and he was educated under the direction of James Byars.<br \/>\nFrom April, 1864, until May, 1865, he served in Company I, Seventh Tennessee<br \/>\nCavalry, and then began reading law in his father&#8217;s office, continuing until<br \/>\n1869, when he came to Ripley and has since had a lucrative practice. June 11,<br \/>\n1878, he married Laura Wardlaw, daughter of J. N. Wardlaw. She was born<br \/>\nSeptember 22, 1855, in Ripley, and is the mother of three children: Thomas,<br \/>\nWardlaw and Milton. Mrs. Steele is a member of the Methodist Church.
