P."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>W. P. Posey<\/strong> is a son of David P. and Peachey T. (Powell) Posey. The father<br \/>\nwas born in Maryland in 1781, and the mother in South Carolina in 1785. They<br \/>\nwere married in South Carolina March 29, 1805. Eleven children were born to<br \/>\nthem &#8212; eight girls and three boys; two sons and three daughters are still<br \/>\nliving. His parents came to West Tennessee in 1832, settling in what is now<br \/>\nthe Third District of Lauderdale County, near Hurricane Hill. They were both<br \/>\nmembers of the Methodist Church, and his mother died in 1845; the father in<br \/>\n1856. He was an old line Whig. Our subject was of Scotch-English descent,<br \/>\nand was born in Lawrence County, S. C., July 31, 1817. He was raised and<br \/>\neducated on a farm, and came with his parents to West Tennessee. They were<br \/>\ntwo months on the road, driving all the way in wagons. January 20, 1848, he<br \/>\nmarried Miss Mary E. Lackey, who was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., January 12,<br \/>\n1825. They had three daughters: Ellen T., born August 19, 1851; Medora V.,<br \/>\nborn October 27, 1853, and Laura A., born November 15, 1857. The oldest and<br \/>\nyoungest are both dead. Medora V. married Dr. R. W. Martin June 16, 1870.<br \/>\nMr. and Mrs. Posey are both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.<br \/>\nBefore the war Mr. Posey was a Whig, but now votes with the Democratic party.<br \/>\nHe has been quite successful as a farmer, and now owns 160 acres of excellent<br \/>\nland.
