YOUNG, Judge George W.
FRIDAY JUNE 3, 1932, LAUDERDALE COUNTY ENTERPRISE RIPLEY, TENNESSEE
ANSWERS LAST CALL–It is not alone that the people of Ripley mourn the passing of one of its most prominent and beloved citizens, Judge George W. YOUNG, for the citizenship of the entire county feels that they have sustained an irreparable loss. For almost half a century, Judge YOUNG had been identified with our people, holding some of the most important positions of honor and trust within their power to bestow, the greatest perhaps, being that of County Judge of Lauderdale County, which he had held almost continuously since the creation of this office many years ago. During the brief interim in which he was not laboring in this capacity, he was serving the City of Ripley as Mayor, resigning this position when again called upon to accept the county judgeship, which he retained until his death. Judge YOUNG, who was in his 72nd year, was a son of the late Dr. & Mrs. A.H. YOUNG, one of Lauderdale’s oldest, most influential and esteemed families. He was born in Durhamville and moved with his parents to Ripley when a mere youth. He attended Bingham College, North Carolina, and later the University of Tennessee and the University of Virginia; receiving his degree from the latter institution. Returning to Ripley he studied law in the office of Steele & Steele. Judge YOUNG passed away Monday morning in the Baptist Hospital, Memphis. The remains were brought to the funeral home on Monday afternoon and prepared for burial. Services were held in the Baptist Church Tuesday at 4 p.m. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Bryan YOUNG and Edward YOUNG, both of Toledo, Ohio; one brother, Prof. Stewart YOUNG, teacher in Culver Military Academy, Culver, Ind.
