FORKED DEER–In the passing of Mr. George Ernest SMITH on January 29, 1932, this community lost one of its best and most highly esteemed citizens. His death occurred in the Baird-Brewer hospital in Dyersburg, after an illness of only five days, and came as a severe shock to his family. He had been an active member of the Woodville Presbyterian church for 33 years. He was 63 years old and had lived near here for 45 years. Mr. SMITH was a most devoted and true husband, an indulgent and affectionate father, a loyal friend, and a kind and generous neighbor. He had a jolly, happy disposition and the young people always counted him a pal. His death leaves a vacancy that will be hard to fill. He had been married 40 years and one day, was the father of eight children, and his passing is the first broken link in the family circle. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dora Burlison SMITH; and the following children; Ernest SMITH, of Arkansas, Frank SMITH, of Memphis, Mrs. Wiley DANIELS of Ripley, Mrs. Leon PERCIFUL, of Dyersburg, Mrs. Ruby McKINNON, Leon SMITH, James SMITH, Jones SMITH and Lucile SMITH. Also four granddaughters; one grandson; three brothers and three sisters. Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral besides the immediate family were; J. B. SMITH, Mrs. Lillian YARDY, Mrs. Florence HARDISON, Mrs. Kate SMITH and Finis STANLEY, of Memphis; Mr. & Mrs. Ed BURLISON and Pat BURLISON, both of Hornersville. Mo. ; Mr. & Mrs. Alonzo SMITH and family and Mrs. CUPPLES, of Montyouma, Mr. & Mrs. Walter STEVENS and family, Mrs. D. A. BURLISON, Mr. & Mrs. Ben BURLISON and family, Mrs. Cora FORCE, Mr. & Mrs. Marion MAXWELL, Mr. & Mrs. H. A. GIBBS, Mrs. James WHITE, Mr. & Mrs. John MAXWELL, Mr. Alex BURLISON and Mr. & Mrs. Louis BURLISON all of Brownsville; Mr. & Mrs. A. H. LOTT, Mr. & Mrs. Ben WHITE. Alonzo KLUTTS, Dan KLUTTS, Broadus KLUTTS and Robert KLUTTS, all of Ripley and a large number of friends.
