HEWETTE L. SPARKS–A telegram received here Thursday announced the death at Kiowa, Okla.,at 5:45 p.m. April 27th, of Hewette L. SPARKS, resident of Florence from 1918,1924, a majority of which time he was employed on The Florence Times. Mr. SPARKS was born in Ripley, Tenn., June 18,1876, the son of James L. & Laura MAYS SPARKS. Like all the members of his large family, he spent his life in the newspaper profession and at the time of his death was editor and publisher of the Kiowa Chronicle, which paper he purchased two years ago, after having been connected with it for six weeks. Surviving are an older brother, R.M. SPARKS, of Kiowa; a sister, Miss Pearl SPARKS, of Florence State Teachers College; and a younger brother, W.M. SPARKS, editor of The Sheffied Standard and the Tuscumbia Times. (Florence Ala. Times)
