Henry, Freland A.
Freland A. Henry, junior member of the firm of Porter & Henry, druggists of
Ripley, and only son of James O. and Martha E. (Hendren) Henry, was born
October 31, 1856, in Haywood County, and was reared on a farm. He attended
the common schools, and at the age of twenty-one began for himself, and after
taking a trip to Arkansas, returned and entered the store of Felsenthal, of
Ripley, as salesman and book-keeper, for two years. He opened a dry-goods
house in 1881, under the title of Chapman & Henry, continuing about two years.
In June 1883 he bought a half interest in the drug store, which was managed
for several years by Mr. Porter. In 1883 Mr. Henry married Mary B. Porter,
who was born January 1, 1865, and was a daughter of his partner. Their union
resulted in the birth of two children: Nellie P. and Courtenay. Mr. and Mrs.
Henry are members of the Methodist Church, and he is a Democrat.
