[Photograph and information submitted by Melanie Powell] This photograph includes a couple of members in my family. The third person from the left in the photograph is my grandmother Mary Parthena Ray, and the woman all the way to the right in the photograph is Annie Lucy Ray. These two were orphans in 1900 and lived with the Midyett Family in Lauderdale County Tennessee. I have found guardianship papers where J. M. Midyett and Rufus Marion Midyett were their guardians at different times. I feel the photograph was taken when the Ray girls lived in Lauderdale County TN with the Midyetts. In the 1910 census, J. M. Midyett and his brother Rufus Marion Midyett and wife Julia Cox lived next door to each other. I am trying to find out who the other individuals were that are in this photograph. I feel sure they are from Lauderdale County TN and would greatly appreciate if any one in the area might recognize any of the other folks in the photograph. I would love to find descendants of the Midyett families to express our family's gratitude for taking these girls in when they had no other place to go. |
There is another photograph of the Thomas Ray family linked from the "Family Photo Index". This is our family. The girls father, Leonard Blackburn or "Lonnie" Ray was killed in November 1900 in a cotton gin accident on the Browning farm. Their mother had died just a couple of years prior to the father's death of TB. If you know of or have any information as to this photograph, I would love to hear from you. Best regards |
