Lightfoot - Mr. Joseph Osteen, one of the earliest settlers of the county, died in our community on the 10th. He came to Lauderdale in 1827 while still a boy with his widowed mother whom he supported by day labor until her death. Then he began rafting and dealing in stock. He later purchased a farm and has steadily increased in wealth.
