Lynn Lawrence Served As A Marshal Of Ripley For Many Years

Services for L.W. Lawrence, who died at 12:10 Friday morning at his home on Highland, after several months illness, were held at the Ripley Funeral Home chapel Saturday afternoon at 3, with Dr. Chesley L. Bowden, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Born in Lauderdale County, near Fulton, Tenn., the son of the late Thomas R.B . Lawrence and Mrs. Lawrence, who moved to the States from England, he had spent his entire life here. For many years he was active in politics and served as City Marshal of Ripley 25 years, prior to his retirement when his health failed. He was widely known over the State as a peace officer. He served as a guard at the State Penitentiary for two years and made an exemplary officer. Mr. Lawrence was 69 and a member of the Baptist Church. Burial was in Elam Cemetery, near Durhamville. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. J. A. Moore of Memphis, and a sister, Mr. E. R. Johnson, of Little Rock, Ark. Lynn, as his friends called him, was a splendid citizen, relentless in the enforcement of the law while serving as City Marshal, always happy to meet and greet his friends and was held in high esteem by our people.
