Mrs. Henrietta Poe AMMONS, 75, of Asbury, died at noon Thursday of last week in Lauderdale County Hospital. Services were Saturday at Salem Baptist Church, of which she was a member, burial in Poplar Grove Cemetery. She was the widow of A. D. AMMONS, Asbury farmer, who died in 1961. She leaves three sons, Melvin AMMONS, J. B. AMMONS and Don AMMONS, all of Asbury and a sister, Mrs. Nora AMMONS, of Ripley.

Mrs. Mattie Webb ARMOUR, 89, wife of C. N. ARMOUR, Halls construction firm owner, 89, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday in Lauderdale County Hospital, which she entered April 29th, 1967. Services were Tuesday in Grace Baptist Church, of which she was a member, burial in Lauderdale County Memorial Gardens. Born in Decatur County, she moved to Lauderdale County early in life. She leaves her daughters, Miss Amelia CRIHFIELD, and Mrs. Gladys CARSON, of Halls and Mrs. L. M. VAUGHN, of Central; her brothers, Jeff WEBB and Will WEBB, of Central and Hobe WEBB, of Edith; and sister, Mrs. Oscar SMITH, of Jackson.

Crowell William ARMSTRONG, 87, of Halls, retired building contractor, died at 9 p.m. Thursday of last week Baptist Hospital of Memphis. Services were at Halls Funeral Home, burial in South Fork Cemetery. Born in Suwanne, GA, he lived in Ft. Worth, Texas and Jacksonville, FL., before he moved to Halls in 1948. Relatives said he had been a member of the Texas Rangers and a US Marshal. He leaves his wife, Freddie Olds ARMSTRONG; a daughter, Mrs. J. P. THOMPSON, of West Memphis, AR; his sisters, Mrs. Frank BEARD, Mrs. Virginia CARLISLE, both of Dallas, TX and Mrs. Paul HOWARD of Grand Praire, TX.

Charlie B. BAKER, 95, retired Crockett County farmer & landowner, who had also operated a general store in Halls, died about 4:15 p.m. Sunday in Parkview Hospital in Dyersburg, which he entered Tuesday of last week of uremia. Services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Archer's Chapel Methodist Church, of which he was a founder and leader and in which he taught Sunday School for half a century. Burial was in the church cemetery. He was born in Bakersville, where his forefathers had been prominent. His father was a Civil War hero at Shiloh. His family moved to West Tennessee in 1885 by covered wagon. His wife, Mrs. Annie Norman BAKER, died in 1935. He leaves three sons, Shellie BAKER, of near Halls, Cecil BAKER, Mayor of Gates, and Melvin BAKER, of near Gates; and a daughter, Mrs. Cora GILLILAND, of Halls.

James A. BLAKLEY, one of 22 men fatally injured June 26th when he stepped on a land mine near Thua Thien in Viet Nam, earned the Purple Heart, National Defense, and Viet Nam service medals, which were presented to his parents, Mr. & Mrs. James BLAKLEY, of 209 Front St., Halls.

VIET CONG MORTAR WOUNDS--PFC Harmon Wayne (Buzzy) BURKS, 22, son of Mr. & Mrs. Harmon G. BURKS, of Henning, was fatally wounded January 30th in Viet Nam. He received fragmentation wounds to the head and body from hostile mortar fire while in a defensive position near Quang Nam. A 1964 graduate of Ripley High School, and of William R. Moore School of Technology in Memphis, he entered the service November 2, 1966, and had been in Viet Nam since September 1967. He also leaves his sister, Miss Rosalee BURKS, of Booneville, Miss., and his grandmothers, Mrs. J. A. FIELDS and Mrs. Lee H. BURKS, both of Henning.

CRASH FATAL FOR NUTBUSH MINISTER--Rev. Wm. Fred GRAY, 43, evangelist and pastor of the Full Gospel Revival Center at Nutbush, was killed Monday morning after his car left Highway 19, a half mile west of Brownsville and struck a tree. State Trooper Bob YOCHUM said thw accident occurred at 6:45 a.m. and that Rev. Mr. GRAY died in Haywood County Memorial Hospital in brownsville four hours later, without having regained consciousness. The trooper said GRAY was alone in the car. He said tire tracks showed the car had left the road for times over a distance of about 600 feet. The officer said Gray, a diabetic, was in insulin shock when he reached the hospital. Gray formerly lived in Memphis, he moved to Brownsville about a year ago. A Navy veteran of WWII, he was a member of the American Legion. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Carolyn GRAY; his son, W. Services for Glen HAZELRIG, 9-year-old grandson of Mr. & Mrs. George CREWS, of Edith, who was accidently shot to death Saturday were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Wells Station Baptist Church in Memphis, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Edith Methodist Church. The boy's uncle, Aubrey CREWS, of 1369 Oak Ridge, Memphis, had loaned a 20-gauge shotgun to Glen's brother, Danny, 15, for hunting during the holidays. Police said Danny had varnished the stock and was putting the gun into a living room closet in his home at 1538 Wells Station Road, when it fired. The blast struck Glen in the chest as he sat in a chair. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital and was pronounced dead at 3 p.m. He leaves his mother, Peggy Hazelrig KIRK; his father, William Wade HAZELRIG; his stepfather, Leonard KIRK; and a sister Rachael, 12 years old.

FURNACE GAS KILLS PARENTS OF RIPLIAN IN BELLS RESIDENCE---Mr. & Mrs. Frank HERRON, parents of Mrs. Jack DAILEY, of Ripley, were found dead at their home in Bells about 9 a.m. Monday, when a negro woman received no answer to her knocking. Crockett County authorities said they were overcome by a gas floor furnace that was not working properly. Services were in First Methodist Church in Bells, with burial in Bellview Cemetery. Mr. HERRON, 76, was a retired produce farmer. Mrs. HERRON, a native of Roxton, Texas was 73. They leave another daughter, Mrs. James HIGGS of Pittsburg, PA. He leaves two brothers, John HERRON, of Trezevant and Horace HERRON of Huntington. She leaves 4 sisters, Mrs. Julia STEVENS & Mrs. Wallace HICKMAN, both of Okla. He was the son of A. B. & Fannie Underwood LANIER, born in January 1907. The family moved to Arp and the family resided there until Arthur finished high school. SANFORD, 19, of Brownsville, was killed Sunday when a pickup truck he was driving skidded on icy Highway 19 near the Haywood-Lauderdale County Line and struck a tree. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Brownsville Home with burial in Trinity Cemetery. A graduate of Haywood County High, he was a freshman in the University of Tennessee at Martin. Services were Sunday in Halls First Christian Church, burial in Halls Cemetery. Born in Dixon County, she moved to Lauderdale County in 1919. She leaves her husband, Joe SUMROW, landowner and ginner; her brothers, Clyde T. LUCAS, of McEWEN and F. M. LUCAS, of Nashville; her sisters, Mrs. John McELHINEY, of Nashville and Mrs. Herbert JONES, of Dunlap.

Banks TAYLOR, 70, of Edith, retired farmer and former Fort Pillow State Prison Farm employee, died at 11 p.m. Thursday of last week in Kennedy Hospital in Memphis, where he had entered December 28th. Services at Edith Methodist Church, Burial in Lauderdale County Memorial Gardens. He was a Navy Veteran of WWI. He leaves his wife, Nellie Crihfiels TAYLOR; a son, Jim TAYLOR of Mt. Vernon, IL and a son, Bobby Joe TAYLOR of West Covina, CA; two brothers, Pike TAYLOR of Halls and Eutram TAYLOR of Pinole, CA; and two sisters, Mrs. John CHISM of Ripley and Mrs. Kate TALLEY, of Cartage, MO.

Albert Young THOMPSON, 74, of 1577 Sterling Road, Memphis; brother of Paul THOMPSON & Neal THOMPSON and Mrs. Laura REECE, all of Ripley, died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday in Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Services were in Memphis Funeral, burial in Asbury Cemetery here. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Rose Mary Thompson ROGERS, of Memphis; and another brother, Hugh THOMPSON, of Arlington.

Services were Thursday in edith Methodist Church, burial in Edith Cemetery. Born in Lauderdale County, she moved to Tipton County in 1941 and back to Ripley four months ago. She was a member of Ripley Church of Christ. She leaves her husband, John THOMPSON; two ste-sons, Kenneth THOMPSON, of Humboldt and -----THOMPSON, of Harrison, Ark.; A step-daughter, Mrs. Oma WILLIAMS, of Bellville, Mich.; a brother, John CHISM, of Ripley; three sisters, Mrs. Neelie CRIHFIELD, of Ripley, Mrs. Odell ELLIS, of Edith and Mrs. Jennie MANERS, of Arp.

She leaves her husband, David THOMPSON; her sons, Robert D. THOMPSON and David Allen THOMPSON, both of Memphis, and her daughter, Mrs. R. A. KOGLER, of Virginia Beach, VA.

Mrs. Augusta VADEN, 82, widow of John M. VADEN, Halls merchant, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday in Parkview Hospital, Dyersburg, which she entered two hours earlier with heart failure. Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at Halls Funeral Home, burial in Concord Cemetery. Born in Haywood County, she moved to Lauderdale County in 1907. She was a member of Curve Church of God. Her husband died in 1962. She leaves 6 sons; Paul, Lynn, Judson, & Wayne VADEN, all of Halls , John M. VADEN, Jr., of Memphis and Andrew VADEN, of Marion, Ark.; two daughters, Mrs. Gilbreath DYER, of Halls and Mrs. W. C. BATTS, of Fulton, Ky.; a sister, Mrs. Robert P. CLARK, of Forked Deer.

A lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, she was a member of Luckett Methodist Church, the widow of Albert Wilbur WAKEFIELD, Luckett farmer, who died in 1928. She leaves her son, Rudell WAKEFIELD, of Ripley; her daughters, Mrs. Pearl OSTEEN and Mrs. Elmer CONRAD, both of Ripley; her brother, Wiley GRIGGS and her sister, Mrs. J. C. WAKEFIELD Sr., both of Ripley.

Oscar WAKEFIELD, 80, of 3659 Kimball, Memphis, brother of Jack WAKEFIELD and Mrs. Oma CROOK, both of Ripley, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday in Memphis MediCenter after a long illness. Burial was in Memphis Memorial Park. Born in Lauderdale County, he moved to Texas about 1908 and returned to Memphis in 1926. He had retired after 30 years with the U. S. Corps of Engineers in Memphis. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. D. E. WAKEFIELD of Memphis and a sister, Tense McGARRITY of Memphis.
