The Rev. A. E. Cox, 85, Primitive Baptist Minister for 40 years, died at his home four miles northwest of Ripley, Friday night {April 11th} of a heart ailment. He was a native of Crockett County, moving to Lauderdale County at the age of four. He was a member of one of West Tennessee's prominent families. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Grace Baptist Church with Evans & Lassiter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Grace Cemetery. Besides his wife, he is survived by 12 children: Charles Cox of Memphis, Walter, James & Parker Cox of Ripley, Ed Cox of Central, Bowden Cox of Blytheville, Ark., and Mrs. Ben Harrison of of Asbury, Mrs. Walter Ryan of Blytheville, Ark., Mrs. Bud Armour of Gates, Mrs. Steve Sasser of Ripley, Mrs. Ernest Cox of Central, Mrs. Beulah Jennings of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Two brothers also survive: J. M. Cox of Memphis and Frank Cox of Ripley; and two sisters: Mrs. A. J. Hargett and Mrs. Mary Young of Ripley. The Rev. Cox had 65 grand-children and a large number of great-grandchildren. |
