\nTiptonville, Tennessee, October 30, 2002<\/p>\n
Joe Arvil Moore,<\/strong> 89, of Portageville, MO, noted longtime Chief of Police, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, MO.\u00a0 He was a native of Tiptonville.<\/p>\n Visitation was Tuesday evening at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.\u00a0 Services are at 11 A.M. today, Wednesday, at First Baptist Church of Portageville, with the Rev. Hershel Godair<\/strong> and the Rev. Wayne Tribble<\/strong> officiating.<\/p>\n Pallbearers are Jake Rone, Ronnie Adams, Freddie Hill, Terry Stevens, Bud Slaught<\/strong>er<\/strong> and Dennis Young<\/strong>.\u00a0 Honorary pallbearers are the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Dept., the Portageville Police Dept. and Fire Dept.<\/p>\n Burial will be in Portageville Cemetery.<\/p>\n He was born May 31, 1913, in Tiptonville, to the late Effie Robinson Moore and Joe Moore.<\/strong>\u00a0 He married Helen Glascock<\/strong> in New Madrid, Mo. on Feb. 11, 1933, and she survives.<\/p>\n He became Chief of Police of Portageville and held that job for 44 years, retiring in 1989.\u00a0 He went to work with the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Dept., and Plastene Supply Company, where he was employed at the time of his death.<\/p>\n He was a member of First Baptist Church of Portageville.<\/p>\n He leaves his wife, Helen Glascock Moore<\/strong>, of the home; a daughter, Peggy Walsh<\/strong> and husband, Denny<\/strong>, of Sacramento, Calif.; a brother Roy Moore<\/strong> of Tiptonville; two sisters, Myrtis Stanley<\/strong> of Tiptonville and Ann Jones<\/strong> of Memphis; a grandson, Sean Joseph Walsh<\/strong> of Sacramento, Calif.; a great, grandson, Jack William Walsh<\/strong> of Sacramento, Calif; a goddaughter, Linda Rogers<\/strong>, of New Madrid, MO, a special friend, Shelia Glasstetter<\/strong> of Portageville brothers:\u00a0 Oborn Moore, Fred Moore, Bill Moore, R Moore<\/strong> and James Moore;<\/strong> three sisters:\u00a0 Velma\u00a0 Moore, Reggie Moore McKnight<\/strong>, and Effie Lou Moore Carr.<\/strong><\/p>\n Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Delta Medical Center Dialysis Foundation in Sikeston, MO.<\/p>\n He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie and Joe Moore<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Obituary as appeared in the Lake County Banner, Tiptonville, Tennessee, October 30, 2002 Joe Arvil Moore, 89, of Portageville, MO, noted longtime Chief of Police, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, MO.\u00a0 He was … Continue reading
