I am looking for my great grandfather Elbert BROOKS or Albert BROOKS. He was born in North Carolina and moved to James County at some point.
What I do know is my grandfather was Thomas Franklin BROOKS, he was born in 1864 and lived in Dist#6, James County. He lived on Standifer Gap Road. He married in 1906 to Nancy DAVIS and they had four children. My father James O. BROOKS Sr. b. 1914 was one of their children. He went to Tyner Elementry School and Silverdale High School and graduated in 1932. He married Estell M CAMP of Apison, Tennessee in 1934.
My grandfather had three brothers, Robert H. BROOKS, b. 1859, a sister Martha, b. 1961, and a brother Elebert L. b. 1866. My Grandfather's mother was Nancy J. BROOKS (I don't know if this is her maiden name or her married name)...she was born in 1837.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. There is two comments herein about BROOKS. I don't know them but if there is a connection please email me at jjbrooks84@cox.net (Chesapeake, Virginia). Thanks

I am searching for information on any of the children of Jacob T. DAVIS (1848-?) and Provy A. HENRY (1853-?).
I believe they were married about 1872 in Bradley Co., and then made their residence in James Co. after that. I've found them on the 1880 and 1900 Census in James Co., 8th District. The census' look like their children's names were Nancy, Betula, Mary, Fanny, Samuel, Luin (my relative), Provy A., Lester L. and Lolo B.
If these names look familiar to you, I would appreciate any information you can share that'll point me in the right direction.

I am searching for the name and full true story of a civil war veteran who lived many years on the top of Grindstone Mountain in the area of Ooltewah / Apison TN. As a young girl I remember hearing of this man (can't remember if Confederate or Union) who suffered such massive injuries to his face; he chose to live alone and away from many people to spare them his terrible looks. In the 50's and 60's I hiked up the mountain a number of times (we lived just below it at the Tallant place). There are still embedded foundations apparent of a house, outbuilding, etc and turn-around circle of road. His occupation was a miller, grinding corn with grindstones, thus the name of the mountain, still. I'd appreciate any info. thanks.

Looking for info on Randall HALL married to Adeline BARNES (b. abt. 1859, TN). Great grandfather, James Madison HALL (b. Jan. 28, 1888), was their son and supposedly sole survivor of a house fire that claimed rest of family.
1880 Census in James County, First Civil District, shows Adeline (HALL), marital status single (?) living with mother, Levina BARNES, Rhoda, Betty J., Champ, James W., Sophia DOUGHTERLY, 4 yrs., granddaughter, and Jane RAMSEY, sister, age 49.
1900 Census for James County, Fifth Dist., shows James M. HALL, nephew, 12 yrs., living with James W. BARNES, [Adeline's bro.],age 28, also, William T. HALL, nephew, 14 yrs. (brother of James M.??).
Have found nothing on Randall HALL anywhere. James M. HALL eventually moved to Independence, MO in the early 1900's and married my g-grandmother, Eva METCALF. Anyone know anything about the BARNES / HALL family in this area??

Are any of the records of James County back in Ootlewah in the old courthouse? The last time that I was there it seemed to be in use as a substation of sorts of the Hamilton County Government. On previous visits it had been serving as an Episcopal Church and the home office of a direct-marketing diet supplement company. Is it a valuable resource for records now?
