My paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Johnson's, mother was married to a George Felker who is buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery, Ringgold, Catoosa County, Georgia. Elizabeth Catherine Collins married George A. Felker on April 20,1881, in Ringgold. They had four or five children. The names I know are: Fannie (April 1886, North Carolina), Agusta Catherine (September 1889, Tennessee), Lottie S. (March 1891, Tennessee), and Jesse. The birth dates and places are from the 1900 James County, Tennessee Census. George Felker died on the September 20, 1894. Before 1899, Elizabeth married James G. Johnson of Apison, James County, and had one daughter, my grandmother. Elizabeth died on August 15, 1901, and is buried as "wife of Georgia Felker" in the Old Stone Church Cemetery, in Ringgold. According to the book about Apison, "Our Community, Past and Present," George owned a store now known as the Dr. Blair place in the heart of Apison. I estimate that George owned the store between! late 1880's and the early 1890's since he died on September 20, 1894. Georgia's parents were Jesse and Eliza Felker. The 1860 Census indicates that Jesse was born in Tennessee, and Georgie was born in Georgia. Jesse must have been quite a character as he was granted the first saloon license in 1854...and became the Sheriff of Ringgold between 1855-60! I believe Jesse's parents may have been Peter and Nancy Felker who appear in the 1860 Hamilton County, Tennessee Census. Peter was 72 years old and born in South Carolina. Nancy was 73 years old and born in Virginia.
I am looking for the descendants of my grandmother's half-sisters. Are you familiar with any of the names in the first paragraph? The enrollment rolls of Centenary College Conservatory, Cleveland, TN listed Fannie, Gussie and Lottie as students of this female academy during the earlier 1900's. My grandmother also attended Centenary. Other documents from Centenary indicate that the half-sisters may have lived in Chattanooga at sometime. I have been working on the Felker line for the past several years, and would be willing to share what information I have.

Before 1852 when they moved to Loudon, TN, William WATKINS and wife Margaret BYERLEY/BIERLEY lived in Ootewah, TN, and left family there. In fact, one of their kin became sheriff of old James CO and later came "for a hanging" to Loudon, TN, in late 1800's or early 1900's. Wm.'s brother Samuel WATKINS also married Margaret's sister Lucy and lived near them in Ootewah. William Watkins was b 1805 Tn and married Margaret, daughter of Casper Byerley, Jr, of SC and wife Mary MOORE b ca 1767 who lived on French Broad River of Knox CO, TN, when the couple was married in 1826 in the Byerley home. Wm. and Margaret's son Wm. Douglas WATKINS b 1843 married Nancy Brown HART b 1852, daughter of George B. HART b c1815 and wife Ellen Ekens/Akens. It is possible that this is a Maryland line via a John WATKINS and Elizabeth HALL of Anne Arundel CO, MD, who went to WVA (then Frederick Co, VA) prior to migration southward. I am eager to share information about any of these lines.
