TAYLOR<\/strong> today commuted to twenty years the life sentence upon <strong>Benier RICHARDSON<\/strong> of Wilson county, in 1885, for murder, on the ground that doubt has arisen as to his guilt.<\/p>\n<p><strong>John BUCKINGHAM<\/strong> of Bedford was pardoned. He was in for two years for assault to kill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Martin CAPPS<\/strong> of Lewis county, in for 5 years for housebreaking and larceny, had his sentence commuted to two and a half years, which will release him soon.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also respited <strong>Pleas WYNNE<\/strong> and <strong>Cattlet TIPTON<\/strong>, sentenced to hang January 3 at Sevierville, until April 5, on the ground that they are material witnesses in the case of the State vs. Cattlett.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Memphis Appeal, January 1, 1899, page 1<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daily Pardon Budget Clemency Includes Respite for Condemned Whaley Murderers Nashville, Dec. 31 &#8211; (Special) &#8211; Gov.
