A correspondent writing the fact to the Knoxville Chronicle, says:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Major Britton<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was a member of the Tennessee Legislature in 1861 and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 0.95em; line-height: 1.6em;\">Was Attorney General for the first Judicial Circuit for several years immediately after the close of the late war, and was a member of the late Constitutional Convention, to which position he was elected by a large\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">majority over the late <\/span><b>Thos. D. Arnold<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He was probably the most eloquent\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and forcible jury lawyer in East Tennessee, and almost universally beloved\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the people.
