RUSSELL, Bud – (d. 1870)

Last week the body of Bud RUSSELL, who disappeared in Claiborne county very mysteriously last June, was discovered. He was identified by his clothes and suspicion strongly points to Jim WINKLER, a brakesman on the W.T. & C. Railroad, and steps have been taken to secure his arrest, if he has not already been secured. He had been shot through the head with a pistol ball, showing that he had been approached from behind and murdered in a cowardly manner. RUSSELL had gone out with WINKLER to show the latter a field of wheat and was known to have about eighteen dollars with him, and it seems that the unfortunate man was murdered for the pitiful amount. His body was then concealed and the murderer then with fiendish coolness sold the crop of wheat, and had pursued his daily avocations without any compunctions of conscience. It is to be hoped that if his guilt is established he may be brought to a speedy punishment. (pg. 4)
