ROBBENS, W.B. (d. 1872)
The Knoxville Press and Herald of the 22d ult. Says: By a letter from a correspondent at Duvall’s Bluff, Arkansas, dated Monday, 19th inst., we are informed that a man, who is supposed to be W.B. ROBBENS, sheriff of Anderson county, was murdered at that place on the day before, Sunday 18th inst., by a ruffian. Mr. ROBBENS left this city last Tuesday in company with Geo. W. LEATH, to go up White River, Arkansas, to obtain some money left to his wife by her father, formerly well known in Anderson county as “old fur Bob,” who had moved to Arkansas dying there some months ago. LEATH went along as guardian for some grandchildren, to obtain some money which had been left to them also. While waiting at Duvall’s Bluff, for a steamer to take them up the river, the tragedy, of which we have no other particulars, occurred. Mr. ROBBENS lived near Sulphur Spring, in what is known as Dutch Valley, about six miles from Clinton, and leaves a wife and six children.
