Reward for Samuel B. Griffith (1872)
Governor’s Proclamation — John C. Brown, Governor of the State of Tennessee– To all who shall see these presents-
Greeting- Whereas, it has been made known to me that a certain Samuel B. GRIFFITH, charged with having committed a foul and atrocious murder, on the 12th day of March, 1872, upon the body of John A. DILLARD late of our county of Polk, has fled from justice, and is now running at large:
Now, therefore, I, John C. BROWN, Governor as aforesaid, by virtue of the power and authority in me vested, do hereby offer a reward of Three Hundred ($300) Dollars, to any person or persons who may apprehend the said Samuel B. GRIFFITH, and deliver him to the Sheriff or Jailor of our county of Polk, in order that justice in that behalf may be had and executed.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State to be affixed at Nashville, on the 19th day of March 1872.

Description– Samuel B. GRIFFITH is about twenty-two years of age, five feet nine inches high blue or light eyes, auburn hair, no beard, complexion pale.
