R.M. TINNON Recovering (1866)

Recovering – We are truly rejoiced to learn that our genial friend and occasional correspondent, R.M. TINNON, who was so dangerously shot on the night of the 22d of February, at his residence near Decatur, Ala., by a negro soldier, is now likely to recover. The wound was a ghastly one and came very near proving fatal – having been made by a musket ball, passing through his breast. The attempt to murder him was most atrocious, and entirely unprovoked. Mr. T. heard some one in his hen house, and on stepping to the door, saw by the bright moonlight, a large negro making way with his chickens. He halted the black scoundrel, and for his impudence in attempting to halt a soldier, was shot. We are glad to announce that the military has rendered every possible assistance to ferret out the would be murderer and bring him to justice; and two negroes are now heavily ironed under orders from the general commanding.
