Marriage: SOLOMON, Lewis & GOLDZINSKY, Rachel – (m. 1871)

MARRIED — In this city, on the 17th inst., at the residence of Mr. J. DAVIS, High street, Mr. Lewis SOLOMON and Miss Rachel GOLDZINSKY.

The marriage ceremony was performed by Dr. M. SAMSFIELD, Rabbi of Memphis, according to Hebrew custom.  The symbols used on this occasion were lighted tapers, two rings and wine.  The first (as explained by the learned Rabbi) represented the religion of Israel, the second, the purity and constancy of love, and the wine the joy and gladness of the occasion, for “wine gladdens the heart.”

The invited guests embraced most of our Hebrew citizens and a large number of those of different faith.

We congratulate our friend, Solomon on the prize he has won, and may he ever find in the “choices of his youth” a true daughter of Judah – one who will make his home a paradise, where the voice of dissension is never heard, and where slander, the great enemy of matrimonial happiness, can find no resting place.
