BATE, H.C. – SIMONTON, Rosa (m. 1866)
MARRIED. Tuesday evening, 16th inst., at the residence of the bride’s father, in this place, Maj. H.C. BATE, of Mississippi, to Miss Rosa SIMONTON.
We congratulate Major BATE, that he has secured such an invaluable prize; yet we can but grieve, in common with the younger portion of the community, that we are to be deprived the society of one so genial, so much beloved. He must not forget, when he transplants the lovely Rosa to his sunny southern home, that he has left aching hearts behind. He had gallant rivals here: they only submit only with signs. May the Major and his fair bride realize perpetually “love’s young dream.”
Love is a celestial harmony of hearts which join together in sweet sympathy to work each other’s happiness. It is the end, the joy, the wealth, the reward of life – nature’s second sun, causing a spring of virtues wherever he shines. It is but sanctified and strengthened by the holy rites of matrimony. May Miss Rosa and the Maj. reap all its joys and rewards.
