Manufacturers (1872)
About a year since the Chattanooga Carriage and Wagon Works were commenced by BALDWIN & CROSBY. They have succeeded in bringing their work into notice by gaining premiums at the Fairs in East Tennessee, over all other manufacturers. Recently the firm has been changed, and we are pleased to welcome Mr. R. G. CROSS who, up to about one year ago, was senior and managing partner of the Carriage Works at Cleveland, Tenn. He is a man of executive ability, and brings to his aid the experience of many years. We wish the new firm of CROSS & CROSBY success, and appeal to our patrons and friends, whenever they are in need to give them a call.– “Spend your money at home” is the motto. They employ twenty to twenty-five hands, who have to be fed, clothed, housed, and warmed. They make a specialty of Sewing Machine Wagons Railroad and Livery Work. Sewing Machine Agents, Railroad Contractors, and Livery Men, should bear this in mind; save freights and build up home manufactories by patronizing our home institutions. Our business men, real estate owners, and all well-wishers of our growing city should encourage this and all similar enterprises; they tend to give importance, both in trade and the development of the business to Chattanooga, and will ere long be one of the great features of our progress, strength, and prosperity.
