Local News (August 11, 1876)
- Hon. W. M. BRADFORD is elected over Hon. D. C. TROWHITT by a majority of 300.
- Our officers, Sheriff HAYS and Trustee WHITE, are two as clever men as there is in the county, and will make good officers.
- If you see a fellow strutting around, with a cheroot in his mouth, that is Sheriff HAYS or Trustee WHITE.
- The two happiest men in this district are John Peter CAMPBELL and Jeems Andrew LAWSON – both constables.
- Old Tom PRATOR got beat in his district for constable. That’s what he gets for not taking the Weekly Herald.
- Our old friend S. S. BARRETT has been re-elected Justice of the Peace in the Charleston district. William BARRETT is the constable.
- We are informed by the citizens of the lower part of the county that the killing of ECHELS by SOUTHERLAND was anything but “self-defense.” If reports be true, it was a cold blooded murder.
- One consolation Dan TREWHITT will have – he was defeated by a clever man and a gentleman, and BRADFORD may feel proud that he was elected over the same kind of man.
- The defeat of Roderick Random BUTLER in the first district for Judge was the best thing that could be done for the party. Such men as he are not fit to set on the bench of justice.
