KIRLEY, (Mr.) – (d. 1872)

Murder in Bledsoe County

A gentleman from Bledsoe county informs us that on the 9th of this month, Wm. HALE – known as Stony Point Bill HALE – quite a respectable citizen of that county, shot and instantly killed a man by the name of KIRLEY, also a respectable citizen of that neighborhood. The occurrence took place at Walden’s Ridge, 6 miles southeast of Tallett’s Mills. Our informant knew nothing of the cause that brought about the difficulty. Politics had nothing to do with it, as both men were pious members of the church – HALE belonged to the Cumberland church, and KIRLEY to the Methodist church. HALE had not been apprehended when our informant left Bledsoe.
