JOHNSON, Ed – (d. 1906)

Title: Trouble is Expected

Chattanooga, Tenn., Wednesday, 21 — The police fear the trouble of last night will be greater today during the funeral of Ed JOHNSON, but the city officers and militia believe they have the situation in hand, as the negroes seem to lack organization. Orders have been issued by <..> the Nashville militia <…> under arms and should the situation become critical the soldiers will be hurried there on a special train. The order of the mayor yesterday closing all saloons and instructions to merchants not to sell arms or ammunition to negroes had a good effect on the situation.
