HORSLEY, Catharine (d. 1869)
Obituary. – Mrs. Catharine HORSELY was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, 1805, moved to Bedford County, Tenn., in 1821, and was married to Rev. William HORSELY, dec’d in 1823. They removed to Maury County about the year 1826, where she resided until her death, which took place July 19th, 1869. Sister HORSELY professed religion at the age of 16, and joined the M.E. Church, in which communion she continued until called to her home in Heaven. For several weeks before her death, she was deeply afflicted, and her sufferings were very great, all of which she bore with Christian fortitude and resignation. She was perfectly willing to die, and manifested no doubts or fears as to her final destiny. She was greatly devoted to her children, and one of her greatest desires was to administer to their comfort and happiness. Her three daughters have preceded her to Heaven. She leaves two sons and a number of grandchildren to mourn her death. They are comforted, however, with the confident belief that their loss is her Eternal gain. The writer preached her funeral at the Methodist Church in this place. May we all meet her in Heaven. – R.G. IRVINE Columbia, July 19th, 1869.
